Hello everyone! I’ve been a slacker lately, but it’s for a good reason! My thyroid biopsy is Friday so I’ve been getting things in order around the house just in case I feel blah afterwards. But the biggest thing is I’ve enrolled in an interior decorating college course! I’m so excited to begin this new chapter in my life! It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now but I thought it was something we couldn’t afford or I had the time for. Well I can do both. The course I’m taking includes the CID (certified interior decorator international) exam and dues for the first year. Maybe I’ll go on to do interior design, but decorating is something I’ve always had a passion for. I’ve really thrown myself into this and I’ve already completed a few lessons. I’ll still try to post as much as possible 🙂
Lets just take a second to think about how it is freaking AUGUST! Where did the summer go? The kids are starting school soon (thank god!) and pretty soon it’ll be pumpkin everything..yay!
Most people like to do monthly favorites but lets be real…wait for it…”ain’t nobody got time for that!” So I’ll start the trend, or maybe it’s already around, of doing seasonal favorites. I have had so much fun with the trends this summer and I’m excited to share a few of my faves with you guys. A lot of things aren’t in this post because I have plans for them in the near future, *wink wink*
This summer I have been OBSESSED with shorts that have different patterns and prints. These are just a few. They are fun and add so much personality to your wardrobe.
The pineapple and chevron pairs are from Wet Seal. The Aztec print are from ROSS.
Another thing I’ve been loving this summer are fruity candles. Usually I’ll burn fall and winter candles all year long but this year I couldn’t pass up the amazing scents at Bath and Body Works. I bought Watermelon Lemonade, Pink apple Punch, and Hawaiian Hibiscus. Another brand of candles I’ve recently discovered that are in my opinion just as good as the BBW candles is a brand called dw Home. I’ve seen these at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and ROSS. I bought the Cool Watermelon one. I love the neon pink with gold accents. They smell soooo good!
Along with summer is the pain of having to shave your legs every other day! I’ve been using the eos, shave cream. I will never use another brand. This stuff is so hydrating and the bottle claims you can shave dry or wet. It smells so good, and they claim it’s “almost natural” like their other products. The price is the best thing about it, I found mine for less than 3 bucks at Walgreens.
Next up is the Pearanormal Activity body lotion by gud from Burt’s Bees. This was on clearance at my Walgreens for $3.49. I didn’t purchase it the first few times I saw it there but after smelling it I had to take it home. I put this stuff on and no matter where I go or what I’m doing people always stop me to tell me I smell great….creepy, lol. But it’s true, the smell will last you hours after putting it on, you won’t even need perfume or body spray.
Last but not least, are my favorite nail colors this season. There are a few but I picked these to just give you an idea. The pink is the “Island Coral” I bought at Walgreens last night and the purple/lilac is called “Spitfire”. I’ve been wearing these, or colors similar all summer long. These colors make my hands look so tan! It’s going to be hard to switch to fall colors soon.
That’s all for now folks. I have so many new things lined up I can’t wait to post more!
It’s been raining here in coastal NC for 2 days now and the rest of the week isn’t looking any brighter. So while I sit here watching a Sex and the City marathon I decided to share with you a little project I did Saturday afternoon.
My step mom gave me these goblet candle holders from Kirklands 3 years ago. I love them but they really don’t go with my decor in our new house. I’ve been wanting to do something with them for a while but just haven’t gotten around to it.
I took a trip to Lowes without much thought as to what color I wanted them to be, but I knew it would come to me once I got there. Valspar spray paints have some beautiful color options! The blues are to die for, so I knew ombré it is. The only problem was each blue was a different finish but that doesn’t really bother me since these are going on the very top of my buffet/coffee bar.
These goblets do have some texture to them. Even after 2 coats of primer you can still see it 😦
But I’m very happy with the finished product! This spray paint is amazing I had absolutely zero runs in the paint. I will certainly purchase Valspar spray paint from now on.
**disclaimer- this is my honest review of the Valspar spray paint. I was not paid by Valspar or any of it’s affiliates to write this review 🙂
I have been hard at work on my home lately! I’m so excited to share my first room with you all!
Our living room is huge. It’s really hard to decorate with the furniture we have because the pieces were purchased to fit our old home. Since we moved in it’s just been thrown together and really blah. With tan walls, brown and blue everything, it was feeling like a cave. The room in no way reflected our personality. I was embarrassed of it when people would come over! After some long thought I had a vision and I’m happy to say my vision is now reality.
Now the after!!
The room is constantly changing so some of these pictures are a little different. I keep adding and taking away, decorating is never really done.
I have always been inspired by the 60’s/70’s era. The music, the decor, the clothes, the free loving spirits have always fascinated me. I wanted that to reflect in this room.
The paint color is Sherwin Williams “rainwashed”. A lot of the decor came from Target, TJ maxx, and Tuesday Morning. I hope you guys enjoy this room as much as we do
If you are around the Camp lejeune area you need to check out my favorite consignment store, New to You. It’s right off of hwy 24. I love this place! I have found so many things here to include my Chanel bag! Inside they have really nice furniture and home decor. My grandmother got a beautiful real wood rocking chair for 60 bucks! Outside they have such a cute shabby chic decor going on. I snapped a few pics on my visit today. I really want the black couch and chair in my bedroom ❤
Like I’ve said before, we moved into our beautiful home a year ago. Decorating has been such a challenge for me! Our old house was tiny and I felt like it was a lot easier to decorate. I bought a lot of pieces that fit that house but are now so out of place. I feel like my house now does not represent my style at all. My mission while my husband is gone is to redecorate my whole house! It’s going to be a task but I have a vision and I can do it. Little by little it’s coming together. What I have now is a lot of “country” decor and I’m going in a completely different direction. I want a lot more contemporary pieces now. I can’t wait to share with you all of the rooms before and after 🙂 here’s a pic of one of the things in the house that I’ve done that I absolutely love, my staircase. Enjoy 🙂
Today we picked up some huge mums from lowes! I feel like it completed our fall porch. I love mums, and I can’t wait for the Mum Fest here in NC this weekend. I would post pics of my Halloween decorations but of course the day I put them up it decided to rain for 3 days straight and ruin them! I hope you enjoy our little front porch:)
What a week we have had in the Riley house! My husband is on leave for 30 days before he has to leave for 3 years 😦 we made a personal decision for the kids and I to stay here. So we are trying to get as much as possible done before he leaves. This past week we decided to FINALLY get our messy, unorganized garage and 2 closets down stairs taken care of. We moved into our beautiful home a little less than a year ago. Our last house was sooooo tiny, had no storage space and old. The new house is double the size plenty of storage and brand spankin new! So can anyone tell me how we have managed to get this house packed full of junk?! I felt smothered by the clutter. Our 2 car garage could hardly fit my little Mazda! Tuesday we pulled it together and the hubs and I tackled the clutter together. It took a couple of hours but we cleared out so much junk! And that’s just what it was….JUNK. Broken junk or things we were never going to use. I followed a strict rule, if I couldn’t decide immediately what I was going to do with it, it was going. Or if I havent used it within the past year, it was going. It was hard but it had to be done. Our two closets downstairs were just as bad. Now that it’s all gone I feel like I can breathe again. If you are thinking about getting rid of your old junk and organizing, do it now! It feels great!
Fall…The best time of the year. I am in love with everything about fall, the decorations, the smells, the festivals, just everything! So as soon as I start spotting fall decor on store shelves I’m all over it! Since we … Continue reading
