Get rid of dandruff

Dandruff….it’s gross. But let’s face it, some people get it. I would be one of those people. I’ve been fighting this battle for years now and finally found something that works, and doesn’t hurt our furry friends.
I use an amazing shampoo that I’m just not willing to part with and they don’t make a dandruff shampoo. I did some research online and found that eucalyptus oil could help.
Off to the organic market I went:) I picked up a bottle of 100% eucalyptus oil for $5.99. When I wash my hair I add about 5 drops of oil to my shampoo and massage it in my scalp. I personally like the smell but I think for some it could be a bit much. It tingles a little but feels nice. So far it’s been working great and my dandruff is at a minimum. You can also apply it directly to your scalp, I think I’ll be doing this soon since the fall/winter make it worse. I’ve heard tea tree oil can help with dandruff also, but I’ve tried tea tree shampoos that never worked for me.
I hope this helps anyone else fighting those pesky flakes.

Get rid of acne the cruelty free way

Hello everyone! We are back from Florida and finally settled back in. Our oldest daughter started school the day after we got back so we have been busy!

I wanted to share with you all how I’ve finally started to get a handle on my acne. I’ve written about this acne mess before and shared with you an amazing cruelty free face wash I use every day. My breakouts were going away but I was still having some trouble. When we first arrived in Florida my break out was pretty bad. I’m blaming it on the stress of driving 14 hours with 2 kids, and that truck stop burger I was brave enough to eat! I didn’t really want to leave our beautiful condo but needed something extra. So I opened the fridge and grabbed the lemon juice. I have never tried lemon juice but O…M…G!! I washed my face, applied the lemon juice as a toner, let that dry then moisturized. The next morning I could already see results! Those nasty pimples were drying up, my skin was looking brighter, and after doing it for almost 2 weeks straight a big scar I had from acne is starting to fade! Why did I wait so long to try this? The only down side is it will burn the acne a little but most toners do that any ways. It’s fast, inexpensive, and you are staying cruelty free! What more could you ask for? I don’t have a picture to go along with this post so I’ll just leave you with this guy we saw at the zoo…enjoy:)

Family vacation! Pt 1 condo review

We made it to Navarre fl late Monday night. Our condo at the Summerwinds Resort is so beautiful! The pictures online weren’t great but we decided to stay here because it was in a nice area, close to a lot of family friendly things, and right on the beach. I figured it doesn’t really matter what the condo looks like because we will be out anyways. I was shocked when we walked in! The condo is huge and it feels like home. We will absolutely stay here again. On top of being right on the beach there are 3 pools and 3 hot tubs. Next to the condo there is a little bar and grill, an Italian bistro and gift shop. I don’t want to leave!
We actually live in a vacation town in NC. I work for a beach vacation rental place but I am still struck by this resort. The condos are clean, newly renovated and spacious. We haven’t had a problem with hearing guests above us stomping around or any unwanted noise. If you are planning a trip to Florida I would recommend this place to anyone!

Clean Cleaning

Today I’ve gone full OCD on my house. I had a break between grooming and running around with the kids and I noticed…my house was disgusting! I’m kind of crazy when it comes to my house, I vacuum at least once a day, I clean the base boards regularly, and I obsess about hand prints on the walls. Yeah, I know I need a life!
Up until now, I’ve used pretty harsh chemicals to clean my house. I always thought the “natural” cleaners weren’t strong enough to clean my house. What do I live in a dumpster?? I mean, seriously, what was I thinking?
Target had their Method products on sale 3 for $8.00, I picked up the all purpose cleaner in lavender, and another in lime. I also bought the antibacterial bathroom cleaner in spearmint and the daily granite cleaner in apple orchard. They all smell amazing! These cleaners are non toxic, plant based and get the job done just as well as those harsh chemicals. Along with cleaning sprays they make, hand and body wash, laundry soap, dish soap and I’m sure much more that my local store don’t carry. The bottles are a great design and so cute! If you’ve been wondering about trying these out I would highly recommend them:)

Summer Favorites

Lets just take a second to think about how it is freaking AUGUST!  Where did the summer go? The kids are starting school soon (thank god!) and pretty soon it’ll be pumpkin everything..yay!

Most people like to do monthly favorites but lets be real…wait for it…”ain’t nobody got time for that!”  So I’ll start the trend, or maybe it’s already around, of doing seasonal favorites. I have had so much fun with the trends this summer and I’m excited to share a few of my faves with you guys. A lot of things aren’t in this post because I have plans for them in the near future, *wink wink*

This summer I have been OBSESSED with shorts that have different patterns and prints.  These are just a few.  They are fun and add so much personality to your wardrobe.

The pineapple and chevron pairs are from Wet Seal. The Aztec print are from ROSS.

Another thing I’ve been loving this summer are fruity candles.  Usually I’ll burn fall and winter candles all year long but this year I couldn’t pass up the amazing scents at Bath and Body Works.  I bought Watermelon Lemonade, Pink apple Punch, and Hawaiian Hibiscus.  Another brand of candles I’ve recently discovered that are in my opinion just as good as the BBW candles is a brand called dw Home.  I’ve seen these at TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and ROSS.  I bought the Cool Watermelon one. I love the neon pink with gold accents. They smell soooo good!

Along with summer is the pain of having to shave your legs every other day! I’ve been using the eos, shave cream.  I will never use another brand. This stuff is so hydrating and the bottle claims you can shave dry or wet. It smells so good, and they claim it’s “almost natural” like their other products.  The price is the best thing about it, I found mine for less than 3 bucks at Walgreens.

Next up is the Pearanormal Activity body lotion by gud from Burt’s Bees. This was on clearance at my Walgreens for $3.49.  I didn’t purchase it the first few times I saw it there but after smelling it I had to take it home.  I put this stuff on and no matter where I go or what I’m doing people always stop me to tell me I smell great….creepy, lol.  But it’s true, the smell will last you hours after putting it on, you won’t even need perfume or body spray.

Last but not least, are my favorite nail colors this season.  There are a few but I picked these to just give you an idea.  The pink is the “Island Coral” I bought at Walgreens last night and the purple/lilac is called “Spitfire”.  I’ve been wearing these, or colors similar all summer long.  These colors make my hands look so tan! It’s going to be hard to switch to fall colors soon.

That’s all for now folks. I have so many new things lined up I can’t wait to post more!

DIY ombré goblet candle holder

It’s been raining here in coastal NC for 2 days now and the rest of the week isn’t looking any brighter. So while I sit here watching a Sex and the City marathon I decided to share with you a little project I did Saturday afternoon.

My step mom gave me these goblet candle holders from Kirklands 3 years ago. I love them but they really don’t go with my decor in our new house. I’ve been wanting to do something with them for a while but just haven’t gotten around to it.

I took a trip to Lowes without much thought as to what color I wanted them to be, but I knew it would come to me once I got there. Valspar spray paints have some beautiful color options! The blues are to die for, so I knew ombré it is. The only problem was each blue was a different finish but that doesn’t really bother me since these are going on the very top of my buffet/coffee bar.

These goblets do have some texture to them. Even after 2 coats of primer you can still see it 😦

But I’m very happy with the finished product! This spray paint is amazing I had absolutely zero runs in the paint. I will certainly purchase Valspar spray paint from now on.

**disclaimer- this is my honest review of the Valspar spray paint. I was not paid by Valspar or any of it’s affiliates to write this review 🙂

My crazy thyroid story

Some of you may remember me talking about my weight loss problems last year. I went to the doctor, had blood work done and a thyroid ultrasound. I was told everything was fine and to diet and exercise. I went to another doctor and got a prescription for phentermine, that failed miserably you can read about that here.  I’ve been depressed and so confused.  I’m only 25 years old I shouldn’t have such a hard time trying to lose weight!

A couple of weeks ago I was having a horrible pain in my neck, jaw, and ear area.  It was excruciating and I couldn’t tell where exactly it was coming from.  I decided to go to the doctor.  This time I saw a different dr, a woman.  She couldn’t really tell what was going on but decided to prescribe me antibiotics.  Thankfully, I brought up the fact that I was STILL struggling with weight loss and a million other things.  She decided to pull up my blood work and thyroid ultrasound from last year and was shocked.  My insulin was twice as high as normal and my LH was SIX times higher than normal! She felt she could confidently diagnose me with PCOS.  Then she pulled out my thyroid ultrasound,  it clearly states that there is a mass that needed to be biopsied!  How was that looked over?!  How can that other male doctor tell me there is nothing wrong with me or my thyroid and that I just wasn’t doing enough dieting and exercising? She said this explains the pain I’m having. Upon further blood work she’s thinking I have an autoimmune disease, “Hashimoto’s” but I will know more after my biopsy and when I see a specialist.  So I have a biopsy scheduled and I’ll have to admit I’m terrified.

The whole reason I decided to share this with you all is to warn you.  Never put full faith into one health care professional. If you feel like there is something wrong don’t stop till you get the answers. I’m not saying all doctors are bad but you know your body, listen to it.  This honestly is what changed my outlook and made me make the switch to organic living.  If any of you live with this disease/disorder (I hate the word disease)  let me know I could always learn more about coping with the side effects.  🙂
